Ice & Mixed

Ice Climbing and Mixed Terrain, between Frozen Waterfalls, North Faces and Alpine Goulottes

Ice climbing in Trentino is one of the most intense and technical experiences in winter mountaineering. Among frozen waterfalls, north faces, snow couloirs and mixed routes, every ascent requires concentration, precision and the ability to adapt to an environment that is constantly changing. Ice, snow and rock combine naturally, creating lines that are always different, shaped by temperature, wind and mountain conditions.

The Brenta Dolomites, the Adamello-Presanella group, Val Daone, Val di Rabbi and Passo del Tonale offer some of the best ice climbing routes in the Italian Alps. Here you can climb classic icefalls, technical goulottes and mixed terrain routes in an authentic and demanding alpine environment.

The proposed experiences are suitable both for those approaching ice climbing for the first time and for experienced mountaineers looking for more demanding ascents. Ice climbing courses allow you to learn the basics of progression with ice axes and crampons, improve your movement technique and gain greater confidence in managing the winter environment. Activities are always adapted to ice conditions, the technical level of the participants and personal goals.

Icefalls, Goulottes and Winter Mountaineering in the Alps

Among the most iconic routes are Canalone Neri in the Brenta Dolomites, the great goulottes of Monte Nero di Presanella, the Valorz icefalls in Val di Rabbi and legendary lines in Val Daone such as Sogno del Gran Scozzese. Val Brenta is one of the main reference areas for ice climbing near Madonna di Campiglio, with many icefalls and mixed routes set in a spectacular Dolomite landscape.

The proposals also include international experiences such as winter climbing on Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands, one of the world’s most famous destinations for mixed terrain and technical ice mountaineering.

Accompanied by a UIAGM Mountain Guide, each ascent is approached with attention to safety, condition assessment and the technical management of progression. The aim is to experience authentic winter mountaineering, improving technical skills, independence and awareness in the alpine environment.

Ice climbing is not only a technical discipline, but a deep way to experience the mountains in winter, entering into direct contact with an element that is fragile, changing and extraordinarily fascinating.
