Program

  • Day 1 – Meet the guide in Cavo and start along the trails of the Grande Traversata Elbana. The day leads through the hills of eastern Elba, with the ascent of Monte Grosso and the passage near the striking Cala dell’Inferno, one of the wildest corners of the island. After reaching the panoramic views of Monte Serra, the route continues to the characteristic village of Rio nell’Elba, where you spend the night. Technical data: 13 km / +850 m / -670 m.
  • Day 2 – The traverse continues along the central ridges of the island, crossing Mediterranean scrub and extraordinary natural balconies over the sea. You reach Monte Strega, Cima del Monte and Monte Castello, following one of the most spectacular sections of the route. The long final descent leads to Porto Azzurro, overlooking the turquoise waters of the eastern coast. Technical data: 13 km / +875 m / -1,020 m.
  • Day 3 – A stage immersed in Mediterranean nature leads towards Monte Tambone, among the scents of mastic tree, strawberry tree and rosemary. The route crosses constantly changing landscapes before reaching Marina di Campo, one of the island’s most loved locations, where the sea becomes the perfect setting for well-earned rest. Technical data: 23 km / +840 m / -840 m.
  • Day 4 – This is the symbolic day of the traverse. The trail climbs progressively to the summit of Monte Capanne, at 1,018 metres the highest point of Elba Island and the whole Tuscan Archipelago. From the summit, on the clearest days, the view stretches from Corsica to the coast of Tuscany. After enjoying this extraordinary panorama, descend to Marciana using the lifts and continue to Marciana Marina for the overnight stay. Technical data: 13 km / +1,040 m / -60 m.
  • Day 5 – After the transfer to Marciana, the walk resumes along the historic Via Crucis leading to the Sanctuary of Madonna del Monte, a place full of charm and spirituality immersed in chestnut woods. From here, follow the high-altitude trails of the western side, touching Monte Giove and La Stretta, between open views over the sea and the wild coastline. The final descent leads to the seaside village of Pomonte, the arrival point of the Grande Traversata Elbana. Technical data: 10 km / +650 m / -1,015 m.
  • Day 6 – Transfer by public transport towards Cavo and end of the experience. A final look at the landscapes crossed accompanies the return, carrying with it the memory of a walking journey through the most authentic soul of Elba Island.
