Ski touring in the Lofoten Islands in Norway is a unique adventure for anyone who loves ski touring and travelling in Arctic environments. Between fjords, mountains plunging into the sea and endless open spaces, the Lofoten Islands offer one of the most spectacular settings in the world for experiencing snow in an authentic way.
Here, the mountains meet the ocean: snow-covered slopes with sea views, wide open spaces and peaks rising directly from sea level to panoramas suspended between sky and water. The cold yet stable climate, frequent snowfall and snow quality provide ideal conditions for ski touring for much of the season.
The Svolvær area is one of the best logistical bases for organising the trip, thanks to its strategic location and easy access to the surrounding routes. Compared with the Lyngen Alps, the Lofoten Islands generally offer a more accessible and less vertical environment, with gentler peaks and less steep slopes. The feeling of exposure and verticality is less marked, but it is replaced by a unique landscape where sea and mountains are constantly merging.
This is an itinerant ski touring trip where every day you explore a new summit, with short transfers and the possibility of linking several descent lines on the same day.
