Cima Tosa (3,136 m) – Mountaineering Ascent via the Normal Route and Via Migotti

Difficulty:

The ascent of Cima Tosa (3,136 m), one of the most imposing and representative mountains in the Brenta Dolomites, between Madonna di Campiglio and Val d’Ambiez, is a prestigious and deeply engaging itinerary. For a long time, it was considered the highest summit in the group, before losing that title to Cima Brenta due to the gradual melting of its snowy summit plateau. Even so, it remains one of the most desired and symbolic ascents in the entire Dolomite area.

This is not a sharp summit, but an imposing rocky massif with a broad summit plateau, rising among vertical walls, couloirs and jagged ridges. The setting is typically Dolomitic: wild, isolated and vast.

Once covered by a thick ice cap, today the mountain retains only patches of snow for much of the year, a clear sign of the climate changes affecting even the highest elevations. This does not reduce its fascination: Cima Tosa still has a powerful aura, conveying a strong sense of verticality, isolation and alpine majesty.

Highlights

  • Mountaineering itinerary in a wild Dolomite environment, on varied and continuous terrain.
  • Rock passages up to grade III+.
  • Complex terrain with ledges, couloirs, ridges and exposed passages requiring sure-footedness and attention.
  • Return with an abseil descent in the final section.
  • Possibility to choose between a more classic variant and a more alpine one, depending on conditions and the group’s level.
