The ascent of Cima Adamello (3,539 m), between Val Genova in Trentino and Passo del Tonale on the Brescia border, is one of the most iconic mountaineering experiences in the Central Alps. One of the symbolic summits of the Adamello-Presanella group, it dominates the vast glacial plateau of Pian di Neve and the Mandrone Glacier, the largest glacier in the Italian Alps.
Its environment is extremely varied. The north side is severe, wild and imposing, while the south side offers more accessible routes, with broad snow slopes and panoramic ridges. This contrast gives the Adamello two very different souls and makes it one of the most complete and representative ascents in the entire group.
Highlights
- Symbolic summit of the Adamello group at 3,539 metres.
- Views over Pian di Neve, the largest glacial plateau in Italy.
- Route on glacier and mixed snow and rock terrain.
- Remote and wild high-altitude environment.
- Possibility of traverses and summit link-ups.
Best for
- The ascent of Cima Adamello is designed for mountaineers and hikers who want to experience a complete glacier itinerary in one of the most iconic environments in the Italian Alps.
- It is ideal for those who want to take on a long day at altitude, and for those who wish to discover the Adamello as part of a traverse, exploring glaciers, ridges and First World War remains over several days.
Program
- Day 1 – Meet the Mountain Guide in the afternoon in Pinzolo for the approach to the hut, or directly in the evening at Rifugio Città di Trento al Mandrone (2,450 m). After the technical briefing and equipment check, dinner and overnight stay in the heart of the Adamello group.
- Day 2 – Early morning departure across the Mandrone Glacier and Pian di Neve. The ascent continues along the final ridge, on rock or snow depending on seasonal conditions, to reach the summit of Cima Adamello (3,539 m). After a stop on the summit, descend along the same route and return to the valley.
Pricing & Logistics
- The cost of the ascent varies depending on the number of participants and the chosen program.
- The price includes: Mountain Guide service, itinerary planning, logistical organisation and technical equipment.
- The price does not include: mountain hut accommodation, transfers, parking fees, personal expenses and any extras.
- On request, it is possible to begin the ascent on the morning of the first day and spend the night at Rifugio ai Caduti dell’Adamello (3,040 m). This option, once common and well justified, is now less convenient because of the strong retreat of the glacier. On summit day, it requires descending back to the base of the glacier, losing significant height, while moving before dawn in the dark and on rough terrain.
Requirements
- Good physical condition and good endurance.
- Familiarity with alpine terrain, snow and glacier travel.
- Adaptability and readiness for high-altitude conditions.
- Experience with long mountain hikes.
Season
The best period for climbing Cima Adamello is generally from June to September, depending on glacier conditions and seasonal snow cover.
In favourable conditions, ascents can also be organised outside the main season, with overnight stays in high-altitude bivouacs, for an even wilder and more complete experience.
